This series is inspired by Fuan Wongs interpretation of the Sulawesi region located in the South East Asian country of Indonesia. These pieces reflect the many seas, seaweeds and a variety of sea life. The colors, which are an amazing selection of vibrant hues, represent the abundance of the varied flora and fauna found in various parts of the Java, Banda, and Celebes seas surrounding Indonesia. Wong endeavored to recreate depictions of life captured in time. The immense attention to detail is shown in the delicate balance of light and dark contrasts foundin each piece. This retrospection was created circa 2004 and represents some Wong’s earlier works.

What’s so special about Sulawesi

It's no wonder nature lovers regard Sulawesi in Indonesia as paradise on earth: its terrestrial fauna is a mosaic of Asian and Australian animals that have produced new species found nowhere else on the planet. The mountainous regions of the central highlands are separated by deep gorges and fast-flowing rivers. In the lush rainforests – such as in Lore Lindu National Park – live an astonishing array of endemic fauna, including babirusa pig deer and eccentric Maleo birds. The waters surrounding the island are teeming with marine life, rich coral reefs, and underwater valleys. Those seas are regarded by some as the world's best waters to dive.
